Tom Lain

Board Member/instructor

Tom was born in Michigan and raised in various coastal towns (East, Gulf, West) since his father was in the Coast Guard. He graduated High School in Petaluma, California (1974). After attending California Maritime Academy and Milwaukee School of Engineering, Tom enlisted into the U.S. Navy and attended Nuclear Power School. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and did several Mediterranean cruises, NATO exercises off the coast of England and sailed the Indian ocean during the Iranian Hostage crisis in 1980.

He settled in St. Joseph, Michigan in 1984 to work at Cook Nuclear Power Plant and retired in 2022.

Tom has been married for 41 years to Valerie, who he met while attending college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He is actively serving at his home church in Michigan, and has enjoyed teaching Sunday School and assisting with youth group for the past 20+ years.
